Design Miami/Basel 2022 – 第16屆邁阿密/巴塞爾設計展

From 13 June to 19 June 2022

Returning to Switzerland for its 16th edition, Design Miami/Basel provides a platform to showcase, acquire, create and discuss collectable designs worldwide. Art Basel combines the work of established and emerging designers from around the world in various disciplines with a series of exhibitions showcasing collectable furniture, lighting and other art objects.

Design Miami/Basel 2022 runs for six days, plus a preview day on 13 June, in conjunction with Art Basel in Switzerland. It is a sister event to Design Miami, which takes place in Florida each December. Design Miami returned to Basel for its 16th edition this year, with substantial visitor numbers and good sales during the opening days. With 34 international gallery presentations and 18 Curio presentations, Design Miami/Basel recorded a pre-pandemic attendance during the week.

For the first time since 2019, Design Miami reunited at Baselworld in June to share this year’s presentations and programmes with collectors and design enthusiasts from around the world via digital platforms. This year’s Basel Fair launched the Podium concept, a curated sales exhibition. Responding to the 2022 curatorial theme of “The Golden Age”, the exhibition explores the idea as a metaphorical concept shared across cultures through time and space. Fifty-two exhibitors showcase, including over 20 new faces. More than 30 museum-quality works are displayed as part of Basel’s inaugural Podium exhibition. A ‘special satellite project’ for the first time this year, including the large-scale ‘Super Blue’ installation, A hybrid digital lecture programme, a live broadcast of all live lectures and a selection of exclusive digital lectures online.

Historical works were prominent in this year’s gallery programme, with several institutional quality works on display. Highlights included a prototype of Gio Ponti’s Moonlight presented by Rossella Colombari. The work was initially created for the 1957 Milan Triennale. At Galerie Jacques Lacoste, this Parisian gallery presented a series of exquisite and rare works by the French designer Jean Royére, including the Anneaux dining table and Anneaux console table in orange and black metallic lacquer and opaline glass (circa 1959).
