“Yellow Face”
《黄脸孔》

作者:沈心懿 日前,话剧《黄脸孔》(“Yellow Face”)正在伦敦国家剧院上演。 该剧作者为知名剧作家、美籍华人黄哲伦(David Henry Hwang)。前几日的观众也许会发现黄哲伦就坐在前排观众席上和大家一起观看演出。 纽约客杂志评价黄哲伦为 “美国最成功的美籍华人剧作家”,  黄哲伦出生于美国加州洛杉矶,  就读于史丹佛大学英语文学系及耶鲁大学戏剧系。最知名著作《蝴蝶君》(“M. Butterfly”)曾获托尼奖最佳戏剧奖,在三十多个国家巡演,包括伦敦西区,更被改编为电影搬上银幕。他的作品以特殊的视角关注华人问题,往往带有深刻的社会意义,受到广泛关注。 《黄脸孔》是他继《蝴蝶君》之后重返公众视野的一部成功作品。该剧围绕作者的另一部在百老汇的失败作品《面值》(“Face Value”)展开。黄哲伦针对当时《西贡小姐》颇具争议的选角Jonathan Pryce创作了《面值》,在早九十年代于百老汇上演,但是仅仅经过预演就不得不叫停,给黄哲伦及他的制作人Stuart Ostrow带来了巨额损失。经过此事,黄于2007年根据这段经历创作了半自传式的《黄脸孔》,并将作者本人带入剧作,时而以主观视角融入故事进展,时而跳出故事,以客观视角观察,完整而理性在现实与故事中穿梭,深刻剖析了族裔问题,“种族”真正意味着什么,政治与传媒在其中扮演的角色,美国文化对它的影响,以及自我身份认同的问题。 《黄脸孔》最初于2007年在美国洛杉矶Mark Taper Forum首演,后移到小剧场Joseph Papp Public Theatre, 获得了Obie剧作奖[1],并为黄哲伦拿到了第三次普利策戏剧奖提名。他表示,在美国社会对于华裔的误解有着许多不同的层面,从表面来看有语言差异,但是背后则有很多文化假想的差异,例如在他的戏剧《中式英语》中,中西方对于婚姻的解读也十分不同。他创作了大量跨文化沟通、东西文化交流题材的作品,《铁轨之舞》、《刚下船》与《家庭挚爱》则是他关于美国华人移民故事的“美华三部曲”。 《黄脸孔》主题严肃,剧情编排紧凑,但是制作十分有创意,对白幽默,不少对《西贡小姐》的调侃机智而不失风度,观众也常常在黄对《面值》的自嘲中会心大笑。这次在国家剧院的重演仍旧特邀英国知名演员叶西园(David Yip)饰演剧中黄哲伦角色的父亲。叶西园是英国最早打入主流电视担任男主角的华人演员,代表作有007和夺宝奇兵系列。他曾和BCTV成员及媒体分享过影视从业心得,并鼓励年轻华人多多尝试,不要埋没自己的才华,同时也可通过表演艺术为华人发出声音。剧中黄哲伦的扮演者沈立宁(Kevin Shen)在西区还参演过“Chimerica”,同时,他也是剧团的创办人,和黄哲伦是斯坦福校友。他在获得美国斯坦福大学计算机系统工程学士学位和社会学硕士学位后,还曾就读沃顿商学院的工商管理硕士,有感于华裔演员在海外缺乏演出机会,决定利用自己的社会学才华和商管知识开办剧团,希望增加华裔演员在西方的演出机会,打开新的戏剧市场。他。另外,《黄脸孔》女主角由陈静(Gemma Chen)扮演,这位牛津大学的毕业生特别鼓励时下年轻人肯定自己的才华并勇于施展。 《黄脸孔》在英国国家剧院的演出排到5月24日,票价分别为12镑和20镑。其中5月17日的晚场会提供字幕,5月24日的下午场会有声音描绘服务(audio described performance)。

生日快乐,莎士比亚

今年是莎士比亚450周年的诞辰纪念日,热情的莎粉们将会怎样和莎翁一起庆祝呢? 4月21日,将在伦敦莎士比亚寰球剧场举行半天的免费开放日。尤其针对幼儿和青少年, 这将是一个不可多得的教育启蒙机会。莎士比亚是英国人的骄傲, 但很多青少年只在书本上看到过莎士比亚,这些长篇大论的文字很容易令人错过其真正内涵,以至于令孩子们失去从莎翁剧作中获取创造力的机会。借助这一特殊时刻,这些活动为孩子们提供了重新认识莎士比亚及其作品的机会。现场将有很多参与性的活动,但是最吸引人的将是免费参观平日价值13.5镑的莎士比亚展览。平日5镑的演出站票业凑份子地定为450便士。 随后的4月23日,又一项活动将展开,那就是前所未有的《哈姆雷特》全球巡演。为期两年的巡演将到访世界上所有国家!交通工具包括飞机,火车,轮船,汽车,翻越七大洲,在各种独特的环境和剧场下演出同一出两小时四十分钟的经典作品。这实在是奉献给莎翁的一份厚礼。继2012年奥运会“37种语言,37出莎士比亚”的世界性艺术节,莎士比亚寰球剧场放眼世界,通过全球人民对于这位英国大文豪的热爱传承英国文学与剧场文化。这样的壮举实属罕见。 在欧洲和北美的一些国家,人们对于莎士比亚的《哈姆雷特》都非常熟悉,但是在世界上的有些国家,了解《哈姆雷特》的并不多,因此这一次的巡演,将有机会看到不同观众的反馈。 《哈姆雷特》这个剧本本身也和巡游有着渊源,早在1608年,剧本写成五年之后,作品就曾在“红龙号”轮船上演出,并在接下来的十年之后在北欧各国巡演。这种挣脱地域限制的风格一向是莎士比亚作品的一种精神。这部作品由现任艺术总监 DOMINIC DROMGOOLE亲手操刀,演员也是精中选精。相信这一次的全球巡演将是世界舞台史上浓重的一笔。 SHAKESPEARESGLOBE.COM 除了伦敦,远在威尔士也将有很有趣的活动进行。那就是户外的迷你“寰球剧场”。树木被细心地修建种植成环形,从四月到九月,这里都将举办有关莎士比亚的演出,工作坊,展览等活动。 SHAKESPEARELINK.CO.UK/WILLOW-GLOBE/ 在莎士比亚的故乡,皇家莎士比亚剧院将在周末举行全天的庆典,并在夜间燃放烟火。剧场也将成为节日的殿堂,各种娱乐活动和演出同时进行。 RSC.ORG.UK 回到伦敦,V&A博物馆也会推出全天的莎士比亚日。活动更偏向学术和文学性的话题。 VAM.AC.UK/SHAKESPEARE 在中国,也将同时举行系列致敬莎翁的纪念活动。由英国皇家莎士比亚剧团与苏格兰国家剧院联合制作的《麦克白后传》将于4月22至23日开启此次系列演出的序幕。被誉为当今英国剧坛“最著名、最有趣的剧作家之一”的大卫·格里格所续写的《麦克白后传》并非原作故事简单的延续,而是以当代人的视角穿越至历史深处,以理解、探索与同情的目光,审视祖先的选择。5月8至11日登场的林兆华作品《大将军寇流兰》在去年亮相爱丁堡国际艺术节之后也重返祖国与观众们再次见面。 身在伦敦的朋友们,不要错过这个机会,加入到这个特殊的生日派对吧!

  真是个让人尴尬了几百年的剧名!含蓄的台湾巡演翻译成了文诌诌的《罪爱》,历史上,也曾被翻译成莫名其妙的假装家庭温馨的《兄妹》,雅中作俗,其实我觉得最合适的名字绝对应该是《哎呀妈呀,她咋是只鸡?!》我希望John Ford在天有灵,会喜欢这个露骨的翻译。就是这个让当时整个戏届跌破眼镜的剧本,成为了四百年来英语世界的一出重口经典。 兄妹乱伦,仇杀下毒,咬舌剖心……文明社会的最后一块遮羞布也被活生生揭开了。通常这样的剧本,很多导演都会被陷入故事主导的语境,幸亏这一次上演的版本来自著名的英国巡演剧团Cheek by Jowl,标志性的肢体语汇,骚到家的男女演员,端给观众一个活色生香的拼盘舞台。红色铺满整个舞台,中心的大床色情而肮脏,两扇大门贯穿起了所有的情節和人物。兄妹偷情结下孽果,父亲蒙在鼓里为女儿找来高富帅郎君,婚事在即,新郎旧情人妒火中烧,蓄意破坏却因自己的毒药在婚礼上暴毙,洞房夜完全不受干扰,干柴烈火却发现新娘有喜!“爸爸去哪了?”知情女佣泄密付出了整条舌头的代价,狂爱最终战胜伦理,撒旦狂欢,心脏作伴!真是一个不吃再吃不下,吃了翻肠倒胃的夜晚啊。 Cheek by Jowl于1981年创立,在舞台上充分体现了导演对于表演及演员的迷恋,唤醒演员内心深处的表演天赋,同时把语言本身作为表演的一个方面,应用法语,俄语作品探索欧洲大陆独特的表演方式和习惯。 只是可惜,有时候,当一件事成为经典的时候,谈论起它的时候也就没有那本该有的感情。散场的观众们,远没有曾经的震惊和兴奋,只是各个面露菜色,消失在了伦敦清冷而闷骚的夜色里,么也没剩…… https://www.barbican.org.uk/theatre/event-detail.asp?ID=15588
